We are seeking a Program Director for our Internal Medicine Residency Training Program. Our well-established and robust program, based on best practices, methods, and techniques, enable a physician to run a successful residency program while continuing to work in clinical practice. Saint Peter's program is proud to have had 100% Internal Medicine board pass rate for 22 consecutive years. We also sponsor fellowships in Gastroenterology and Pulmonary Medicine.

Saint Peter's University Hospital is a non-profit, 478-bed acute care teaching hospital sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen. Saint Peter's brings the latest medical practices and highly skilled professionals to the bedside. We employ more than 3,600 healthcare professionals and support personnel, and more than 1,000 doctors and dentists are on staff at our hospital. We treat more than 23,000 inpatients and more than 245,000 outpatients yearly.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Chairman of Medicine, the Program Director administers and maintains a residency program that is conducive to exceptional clinical learning and professional development. Direct involvement in patient care is crucial to include continuous supervision, mentoring, and direct teaching of the residents. In addition to excellent clinical and leadership skills, the ideal candidate will have a proven track record of academic excellence and collaboration with marginalized communities and possess knowledge of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) policies, procedures and program requirements. The Program Director establishes the strategic direction of the Program and is responsible for the standards, quality and reputation of such. The Program Director is expected to support integration of the Internal Medicine Program with physician practices and hospital clinical services in a manner that enhances value and quality, and that promotes an optimal environment for professional practice and medical education.

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations and long-term strategy of the Internal Medicine residency program.
- Foster collaborative relationships between the residency program and institutional leadership, medical school, and affiliated hospitals.
- Enhance electives and relationships with community physicians.
- Lead efforts to recruit high-quality resident candidates and participate in interviews and selection.
- Create a supportive environment that prioritizes resident wellness, work-life balance, and mental health.
- Support resident engagement in research and scholarly activities, and mentor them in publishing and presenting their work.
- Develop policies and procedures for resident training, clinical performance, and academic success.
- Design, implement, and regularly update the residency curriculum to ensure it covers core competencies and aligns with best practices.
- Oversee the educational activities, including didactics, clinical rotations, research opportunities, and workshops.
- Assume the role of SIM Lab Director.
- Mentor residents and provide regular feedback, evaluations, and career guidance.
- Ensure program compliance with ACGME standards, including reporting and accreditation requirements.
Requirements:
- Education: M.D. or D.O. degree with board certification in Internal Medicine.
- Experience: 10 years or more of clinician experience and 5 years or more in medical education or administration are highly preferred, with proven leadership skills required.
- Licensure: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of New Jersey.
- ACGME Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of ACGME standards and graduate medical education regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in research and academic medicine.
- Previous leadership roles, such as Associate Program Director, Chair of Clinical Competency Committee, Quality Committee Chair or equivalent.
Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, including residents, faculty, and hospital administration.
- Commitment to resident education and well-being.
