LEAD HVAC-R MECH
Maintenance
The LEAD HVAC-R MECH will:
• Perform/supervise corrective maintenance in accordance with the work order system.
• Install/repair air handlers, fans, steam and hot water control valves, pumps and the like, in a thorough and timely manner.
• Install and insulates ductwork as required.
• Install/repair/calibrate thermostats and other control equipment as required.
• Organize and coordinate composite jobs among engineering shops with minimal time lost.
• Provide estimates for materials and man hours for jobs within 48 hours of receipt.
• Install/repair refrigerators, ice machines, freezers and the like, in a thorough and timely manner.
• Trace electrical control systems from low voltage DC to 480 VAC 3-phase for shorted, loose or missing wiring in an efficient and timely manner.
• Assist other personnel or agencies in completing safety inspections, installation, servicing and repair of any HVAC/R equipment as required.
• Order materials necessary for completion of a job within 48 hours of receipt.
• Complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner at all times. Assures that shop employees are used to their maximum efficiency.
• Complete work order paperwork accurately as soon as completed.
• Assist HVAC/R I Mechanics on major projects as required.
• Keep Section Leader/Manager informed of any problem areas at all times.
• Responsible for preventive maintenance in accordance with the work order system.
• Assure that PM is performed on air handlers, cooling towers, fans, motors, ice makers, water fountains, refrigeration equipment and the like in a thorough and timely manner.
• Assure/Perform major/minor safety inspections on HVAC/R equipment in a thorough and timely manner.
• Complete work order paperwork accurately as soon as completed.
• Issue work orders for any corrective maintenance required after completion of PM work order at all times.
• Keep Section Leader/Manager informed of any problem areas at all times.
• Respond to emergency calls within 15 - 30 minutes of receipt.
• Issue work orders for all emergency work as soon as completed at all times.
• Keep Section Leader/Manager informed of any problem areas at all times.
• Potential for driving a SPHCS owned vehicle to various locations
• Display appropriate knowledge of the HVAC/Plumbing trade.
• Perform assigned jobs in accordance with ASHRAE and all NJDOH and The Joint Commission regulations.
• Maintain current knowledge of the HVAC/Plumbing trade at all times.
• Read blueprints, schematics and electrical specs.
• Exhibit familiarity with all tools and testing equipment needed to perform job tasks effectively.
• Maintain the shop in an orderly condition.
• Assure that mechanics are wearing safety equipment - gloves, goggles, etc. during work performance.
• Perform work assignments in a safe manner.
• Maintain work area in a safe, orderly manner at all times.
• Perform all work in accordance with OSHA and other applicable regulations.
• Clean work area after completion of work at all times.
• Performs other miscellaneous tasks.
• Assist during emergencies such as snow, fire, flood, power loss and the like, as required.
• Act as back-up Plumbing/HVAC Section Leader when required by the Engineering Manager/or when Section Leader on vacation.
• Take lead on projects or large work orders.
• Instruct HVAC/Plumbing I, II's and Helpers in an efficient and effective manner at all times.
• Lay out jobs and materials needed as required.
• Perform on-call for the department.
• Conduct performance reviews of other HVAC Mechanics.
• Perform disciplinary actions within the shop.
• Schedule projects and off hours jobs.
• Initiate, monitor and evaluate quality improvement programs within the shop.
Requirements:
• Ability to read, comprehend and transmit complicated and detailed instructions.
• A comprehensive understanding of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and operations normally acquired through an HVAC/R/Plumbing apprentice program or similar on-the-job training and 5-7 years of related HVAC/R/Plumbing experience.
• Ability to meet deadlines, to concentrate and pay attention to details.
• Interpersonal skills and supervisory experience necessary to deal effectively and in a courteous manner with Hospital personnel.
• Work requires prolonged standing, and the ability to walk, climb ladders, lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
• Work requires exposure to unpleasant odors.
• Must be familiar with and exercise precautions for working near live electrical equipment and wiring, and hazards from mechanical equipment which is in operating condition.
• Valid and in good standing driver's license issued by the state of New Jersey preferred due to the possibility of driving a facility vehicle to our various locations.

The salary range listed for exempt positions reflects full-time compensation and will be prorated based on employment status.
