Respiratory Therapy
The Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner Per Diem will:
- Provide all aspects of therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care based on established American Association of Respiratory Care Standards and Saint Peters University Hospital Policies and Procedures. Demonstrate competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served; the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs; knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.
- Administer oxygen therapy according to policy and procedure.
- Perform diagnostic tests according to policy and procedure as appropriate to the ages of the patient's growth and development through the life cycle factors (Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adult, and Geriatrics).
- Initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation according to policy and procedure as appropriate to the ages of the patient's growth and development through the life cycle factors (Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adult, and Geriatrics).
- Maintain, evaluate and operate respiratory care equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations in Hospital as appropriate to the ages of the patient's growth and development through the life cycle factors (Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adult, and Geriatrics).
- Attend and participate in education and Department meetings.
- Perform Hands Off Communication.
- Participate in the training and monitoring of respiratory students during their clinical rotation at Saint Peter's University Hospital. Provide guidance, assistance and instruction to registry-eligible Respiratory Care Practitioners and Respiratory Care Trainers on therapeutic and technical questions as appropriate to the ages of the patient's growth and development through the life cycle factors (Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adult, and Geriatrics).
Requirements:
- Graduate of an AMA-approved one (1) year Program in Respiratory Therapy.
- Licensed by the State of New Jersey Board of Respiratory Care as a Respiratory Care Practitioner and Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Demonstrated competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served; the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs; a knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.
- Demonstrated competency in the care and treatment of the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric.
- BLS Certification required, as approved by the American Heart Association.
- Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).
- Certified Respiratory Care Practitioners trained and assigned to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on a regular basis is required to obtain the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
