Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients as ordered by physicians. Must be able to recognize normal from abnormal anatomy in order to make proper preliminary diagnosis. Assists Radiologist and OR Radiology Residents during imaging and/or interventional procedures. Assists in the training of co-workers, Radiology Residents and students. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care as appropriate to the ages of the patients growth and development through the life cycle factors (Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics).

The Registered Ultrasound Technologist Per Diem will:
  • Perform ultrasound procedures following the SPUH ultrasound scanning protocol appropriate to the ages of the patients.
  • Prepare patient for ultrasound procedure- this includes proper clothing, educating patient and family - if pediatric patient ease fears.
  • Assist Radiologist to obtain a diagnosis.
  • Determine when a patient should be held until their physician is contacted with results of the procedure.
  • Accurately record a complete technologist 'note' to include all pertinent information concerning the exam/procedure.


Requirements:
  • Graduate from approved school of medical ultrasound technology.
  • RDMS required.
  • Requires communication skills sufficient for effective communication with patients, physicians and staff.
  • BLS Certification required, as approved by the American Heart Association.
