Adult Ambulatory Care

The Bilingual Clinical Assistant, per diem will:
  • Complete required clinical duties when the patient is seen during the visit. Obtain patient's vital signs, height, weight, and documents in the Electronic Medical Record. Record chief complaint of the visit, and updates patient's care preferences (lab, radiology, care team, etc.). Update allergies, past medical, surgical, family, and smoking history. Review and update the quality health section in each patient's chart (i.e., vaccines, mammograms, colonoscopies, pap smears, etc.). Demonstrate timely response to patients' requests with courtesy and respect.
  • Provide for patient safety through adherence to policies and procedures. Ensure patient exam room and all patient care areas are clean and orderly. Wash hands before and after each patient contact. Adhere to techniques outlined in the Universal Hospital Precautions Policy. Introduce self by name and wears photo ID.
  • Set up and assist with in-office procedures. Provide chaperone services as required to patients undergoing procedures. Have the ability to perform 12 lead EKGs as ordered by the physician. Set up pulse oximetry equipment, attach probe to the patient, take measurements of values, records results, and ensure all test results are communicated to the physician.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures. Verbalize awareness of location and use of emergency equipment and can demonstrate procedures to assure patient safety in emergent situations and disaster plans. Report faulty/missing equipment upon discovery.
  • Ensure smooth flow of the Department by maintaining orderliness. Keep the department neat, clean, and organized. Maintain weekly exam room logs, ensuring all supplies are within the date range of use. Order necessary supplies to keep sufficient PAR levels. Perform daily checks of oxygen tanks for appropriate pressure to ensure an adequate supply. Replenish tanks as necessary.
  • Assist with front desk duties, including patient registration, telephone encounters, and appointment scheduling. Prepare chart for patient's visit. Understand insurance restrictions for lab work, referral needs, precertification requirements, etc. Maintain standards of patient confidentiality. Support customer service and performance improvement goals of the department.
  • Demonstrate safe specimen handling. Transport medications, blood products, specimens, and urine samples to and from the Pharmacy, Blood Bank, Lab, and Infusion Center. Properly prepare the waste for Stericycle pickup.
  • Assist providers with tracking labs, radiology, and other related diagnostic studies. Send messages to providers using EMR. Maintain and update patient records.
  • Be highly motivated, effective communicator, and team player. Demonstrate skills in time management and detail orientation. Display ability to work effectively in a changing environment. Accept constructive criticism as demonstrated by positive behavioral changes. Assist in orienting new staff members. Display a respectful, empathetic, and caring attitude toward patients and coworkers.


Requirements:
  • Medical terminology and data entry experience.
  • Successful completion of Nursing Assistant training or Certified Medical Assistant training.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.


Schedule: per diem, day shift, Monday-Friday hours
